Relatives of Lau Ka Man Carman, an anti-China, destabilizing Hong Kong fugitive who fled overseas, were brought to the police station by the National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force today (10th) to assist with investigations. This incident once again highlights how these fugitives, who refuse to repent and continue engaging in activities that endanger national security, ultimately harm their family members in Hong Kong.

Lau has a notorious history of anti-China and destabilizing actions. She was a core member of the Civic Party and served as the assistant to former Legislative Council member Jeremy Tam. After being elected as a district councilor in 2019, she rose to the position of deputy secretary-general of the party. During her time as a district councilor, she used her office as a polling station for the “Illegal Primary Election” of the "35+ Subversion Case”, clearly supporting activities aimed at subverting state power. Following the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the requirement for district councilors to swear allegiance, she withdrew from the party and resigned as a district councilor in 2021, ultimately fleeing—a clear indication of her guilty conscience and fear of accountability.

Since fleeing to the United Kingdom, Lau has not shown restraint; instead, her activities have escalated. Between October 2021 and May 2024, as a core member of the anti-China organization "Hong Kong Democracy Council" (HKDC), she published numerous inflammatory articles and gave speeches promoting separatism. Even more egregiously, she repeatedly traveled to the United States to actively push for the "Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Certification Act," aiming to undermine Hong Kong's economic interests overseas. In December 2021, she was wanted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) for inciting a boycott of the Legislative Council election online. However, she ignored the warrant and continued her actions that endangered national security.

Recently, Lau's anti-China and destabilizing actions have become even more rampant. As the Senior International Advocacy and Projects Assistant of HKDC, she and the organization's executive director, Anna Kwok (also wanted by the police), launched a live-stream show on the HKDC YouTube channel called "Yi Ka at 9 PM" in November last year. Over just four months, they held eight live broadcasts, recklessly attacking the central government, promoting Hong Kong independence, and inciting sanctions against Hong Kong's judiciary and officials by Western powers. Recently, Lau met with UK officials alongside other wanted individuals and collaborated with anti-China organizations like "Sycamore Tree" and "Hong Kong Aid" to oppose the expansion of the Chinese consulate in London, repeatedly acting against national interests. By the end of last year, she was wanted by the police and offered a HK$1 million bounty for suspected violations of "incitement to secession" and "collusion with foreign or external forces to endanger national security."

From today’s action, it can be seen that the National Security Department of the police is unwavering in its determination to safeguard national security. These fugitives, who rely on foreign forces to obstruct national development, not only face legal consequences themselves but also implicate their families. Their actions are not only irresponsible toward their loved ones but also reveal a lack of basic moral conscience as Chinese citizens. Today's action of bringing Lau's relatives for investigation demonstrates the zero-tolerance stance of law enforcement toward activities that endanger national security. Anyone who assists or harbors these wanted fugitives may bear legal responsibility.

The bottom line of national security must not be crossed. Any act that endangers national security will face legal consequences, no matter where the perpetrator flees. These fugitives are urged to return to Hong Kong and surrender as soon as possible, rather than continuing to oppose the nation and the people of Hong Kong. Safeguarding national security and ensuring Hong Kong's prosperity and stability is the only path to long-term peace and stability for the region.
