Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament kicks off afresh at Kai Tak Sports Park

The highly anticipated three-day Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament kicked off this Friday at its new home, the Kai Tak Sports Park. A large number of both local residents and tourists have flocked to the state-of-the-art venue for the occasion.
The games began at 10:30 AM today, with enthusiastic fans arriving as early as 9:00 AM, many proudly displaying their team colors. Among the international supporters was a visitor from Fiji, who made the trip to Hong Kong specifically to cheer on the Fijian national team.
One attendee recounted their past experiences at the Sevens held at the Hong Kong Stadium. They also mentioned scouting out transportation options to the new Kai Tak location the day before, ensuring a smooth journey and maximizing their time at the event.
The morning's festivities included youth and mini rugby matches, creating a lively and family-friendly atmosphere.
A group of students from mainland China, currently studying in Hong Kong, arrived two hours ahead of time, excited to experience the Sevens atmosphere for the first time and secure the best possible views.
Despite the rainy weather earlier in the day, attendees were well-prepared. One individual noted that they had reviewed the list of prohibited items and brought a folding umbrella.
Australian tourists staying on Hong Kong Island reported that the commute to the Kai Tak venue was convenient via the MTR, even during peak hours, with comfortable and uncrowded train conditions.
At Sung Wong Toi station, announcements were broadcast from early in the morning, providing instructions for crowd control and directing passengers to Exit D for access to the sports park.
Following the tournament, some visitors intend to explore the Kai Tak and Kowloon City neighborhoods, reflecting on the history of the former Kai Tak Airport and observing the area's redevelopment over the last decade. They described the new Kai Tak as an interesting change.
Tonight's schedule includes the Hong Kong team competing in the Melrose Claymores match. The women's team will face Kazakhstan, while the men's team will play against their national team counterparts.
