Next Tuesday (the 17th) marks the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Tourism Board announced today (the 9th) that this year's traditional Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance will expand its performance area and introduce a live broadcast zone in Victoria Park. There will also be an LED "Little Fire Dragon" performance, and a drone show will take place at the Wanchai waterfront on the festival day.
The performance area for this year's Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance will extend from Huan Sha Street to Causeway Road, with designated performance zones added. Victoria Park will host live broadcasts of the Fire Dragon Dance from next Monday to Wednesday (the 16th to 18th) for three consecutive nights. Around 100 children will participate in dancing with approximately 10,000 LED lights to illuminate the Little Fire Dragon alongside the traditional one.
Additionally, the event will introduce various performances for the first time, such as rope skipping and glow-in-the-dark nunchucks. Several festive photo spots, including a dragon head, dragon ball, and illuminated Mid-Autumn flower displays, will be set up in the Tai Hang area. Visitors can also take photos with a 4-meter-diameter giant illuminated moon near the Morton Terrace temporary park. Two illuminated trams (Bright Ring Tram) have been revamped with dragon designs, traveling around Hong Kong Island. The Tourism Board's social media platforms will feature short videos themed around the Fire Dragon Dance, blending Hong Kong comic styles to vividly showcase the Tai Hang community and its cultural heritage.
On the Mid-Autumn Festival day, the Tourism Board will host a themed drone performance at the Wanchai waterfront for the first time, featuring cute jade rabbits in the Victoria Harbour sky, inviting audiences to engage in various traditional Mid-Autumn activities, complementing the classic Tai Hang Fire Dragon scenes. Special Mid-Autumn lantern displays will also be set up at multiple locations, including Victoria Park, Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Centre, Tsing Yi Park, Yau Ma Tei's Jao Tsung-I Academy, Wong Tai Sin Temple, and Lee Tung Street in Wanchai.
